Pastor W.C. Kenan Pastor William C. Kenan is the visionary pastor and founder of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, Inc. located in Midland, Texas. His ministry spans more than 40 years during which he has literally impacted the lives of thousands. He has ministered in various settings such as workshops, seminars, conferences, revivals, crusades, radio, and television.
Born in North Carolina, he studied medicine at the Hampton Institute in Hampton, VA prior to a four-year tour of duty in the Air Force. While in the military he was led to Christ and his life of service and dedication to God has been legendary. A trademark of his leadership style has been his ability to build-up the ministries where he has served. To his credit he has remodeled several churches, built two churches on the Navajo Indian reservation and played a significant role in helping other churches to become debt free.
After coming to Midland, Pastor Kenan was among the first Black pastors anywhere whose ministry was being televised. Almost simultaneously with his founding of Faith Temple, he organized and implemented The Spiritual Explosion. This annual event has been the cause of many coming to Christ, and it has provided an oasis in the desert for countless others. Pastor Kenan has served the Church of God in Christ in numerous capacities, including District Superintendent and First-Administrative Assistant to the Jurisdictional Bishop.
Presently he serves as Pastor of one church in two locations (Faith Temple COGIC – Midland, TX and Parks Memorial COGIC – Odessa , TX ), and is the founder and president of Kingdom Gathering Ministries.
He and his lovely wife, Bertha have partnered together throughout the years to win souls for Christ, and the vision of this ministry continues to unfold. Pastor and Lady Kenan have four children - Sharnette Kenan, Sheryl Randolph (Supt. Darwin Randolph - Pastor of Living Word Ministries C.O.G.I.C), Shanda McWilliams (Elder Michael McWilliams – pastor of St. Andrew C.O.G.I.C) and William Cersle Kenan II (Christie Kenan). They have six wonderful grandchildren.
Mrs. Bertha Kenan
Missionary Bertha Kenan was saved as a teenager and became a member of the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Newark, New Jersey. The late Bishop Howard Smith was her pastor. She accepted her call to the ministry and worked diligently in several areas of her local Church.
After her marriage to Rev. W. C. Kenan the couple relocated to Gallup, New Mexico. While in New Mexico, Missionary Kenan served as the State Chairlady of the New Mexico Jurisdiction Youth Department. In 1971 they left New Mexico and moved to Midland, Texas, where she has served as District Missionary, along with several other district and jurisdictional positions within the Church of God in Christ.
She is a gifted and anointed woman of God. At Faith Temple, she faithfully serves as Director of Women’s Ministries, an Administrative Assistant to the Pastor, President of the Mission Department, and a member of the Mother’s Board.
Missionary Kenan has had the opportunity to minister in various settings. She has ministered through teaching, workshops, seminars, conferences, revivals, radio and television ministries. She and her husband are founders of the Faith Temple Church and the Spiritual Explosion, which take place annually in the month of August.
